We're Aboard!

After checking out of Best Western, we grabbed a cab to American Harbor in Red Hook. The cabbies we've had in the islands have all had certain similarities - they are polite and very religious. This one didn't disappoint with Jesus music blasting from his car stereo. The musician sounded vaguely familiar but we couldn't place it right away. All of the sudden, Jon turned to me and said "wow - this sounds exactly like Pat Perry." Having our brother-in-law sing "God Speed" was strangely comforting and hopefully a good omen. We asked to see the CD - here's a link if you want to buy the album... www.ronrosman.com/offering

We arrived and headed down to the docks to find "Journey's End," our home for the next 10 days. It was love at first sight....

While this is our first trip onboard a sailboat, it's actually our third trip to the Virgin Islands. Four years ago we stayed at a small eco-resort, Cooper Island Beach Club, in the British Virgin Islands and rented a motorboat to take day-trips. We built our itinerary for this trip to stop at some of fun, funky beach bars and amazing snorkel spots we visited four years ago.

About 18 months ago (in the dark depths of winter, of course) we started fantasizing about moving to the Virgin Islands and opening up a Caribbean office for Visual Storytellers. Imagine....Jon and Amy creating videos in paradise! Brings to mind Thomas Magnam solving mysteries in Hawaii - right? So during our second trip to the Virgin Islands we actually met with a real estate agent and toured some homes on St. Thomas before vacationing on St. John for a week. Ultimately, we decided that living on St. Thomas wasn't the way to go, but it didn't stop us from wanting to come back to this beautiful place.

And now we're here! We just finished our first dinner aboard "Journey's End." It consisted of a loaf of freshly baked French bread, some brie cheese and salami we picked up at the little market across the street from the marina. For those who grew up in the '80s, you probably saw the movie, "St. Elmo's Fire." There is a scene where the character played by Mare Winningham finally moves out of her rich parents house and into her own apartment. The first night on her own, she makes herself a PB&J sandwich, and she tells the character played by Rob Lowe that it was "the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich she's ever had." That's how we felt about our first meal on our first night on our first charter boat - yum!!!
